A merchant is someone who trades in goods produced by others, especially one who trades with foreign countries. Historically, a merchant is anyone who is involved in business or trade. Merchants have operated for as long as industry, commerce, and trade have existed.

For context, I am the seventh generation of what historically would be categorized as a merchant. My great-x-5-grandfather was one of the early merchants in the city of Philadelphia, raised about 100 years after its founding in 1682. He went on to finance a portion of the revolutionary war with essential goods like boots, belts, and other leather products. 

In today's world, we deal with digital goods and services, domestic and foreign, and oftentimes invest in these ventures along the way. In this capacity, I am the same as him. Hence the name. Merchant Seven. 

The efforts of Merchant Seven are predominantly on private investments. 

M7 invests and advises meaningful companies working to find PMF, or having found PMF, want to scale their GTM efforts. 

These are buzzwords for building the business side of an organization.
